Bulgarian-born French Expressionist Painter, 1885-1930,American painter, draughtsman and printmaker of Bulgarian birth, active in France. He attended secondary school in Vienna, returning in 1901 to Bucharest, where his family had settled, and working briefly in the office of his father's grain-merchandizing business. He was, however, already becoming passionately interested in drawing, for which he showed precocious talent. At the age of 16 he became the lover of a woman who ran a brothel and was allowed by her to draw the residents. Carel de Moor
(February 25, 1655 - February 16, 1738) was a Dutch Golden Age etcher and painter. He was a pupil of Gerard Dou. Carel de Moor was born in Leiden. According to Houbraken, his father was an art dealer who wanted him to study languages and only allowed him to study art when his talent for drawing surfaced at a young age. Houbraken met him in person at the atelier of Godfried Schalcken when he was completing his education there. According to the RKD he was the son of a Leiden painter of the same name and a pupil of Dou, Frans van Mieris, Godfried Schalcken, and Abraham van den Tempel. He became a member of the Leiden Guild of St. Luke in 1683, and became deacon many times over in the years 1688-1711. His own pupils later were Pieter Lyonet, Andrei Matveev, Arent Pijl, Arnout Rentinck, and Mattheus Verheyden.
Vicente Palmaroli Gonzalez
1834-1896 Spanish Vicente Palmaroli Gonzalez Gallery His father was the Italian lithographer, Gaetano Palmaroli and he studied in San Fernando's Royal Academy. He later went to Rome in 1857 to complete his training, and he lived there until 1866. One year later, he went to the Paris World's Fair of 1867. He met Ernest Meissonier, who influenced his later works. He was academician in San Fernando's Royal Academy, and director in the Spanish Academy in Rome and Prado Museum (1893-1896).
